Biography
Born on the 9th November 1984 Delta Goodrem has fitted a lot of passion into her 18 years. At the age of 10 Delta started taking singing lessons having started piano lessons two years previous. Her first demo CD was recorded at the rather young age of 13, after saving up the money she made from her acting jobs. Delta first started acting at the tender age of 7 in an American commercial and later gaining masses of experience from shows such as
"Hey dad" and "Police Rescue" whilst getting to be the Quik girl for 4 years. This was haltered when she had to get braces but the focus that had gone into acting went in to her music, writing and getting a CD together. "I love piano. I love music. It's a definite passion."
Having saved the money Delta was able to make a six track demo, this CD along with photos and a resume was sent to everybody including football clubs in Australia. With the national anthem on the CD she sent it to her favourite football clubs including the Sydney Swans hoping that she might be able to sing at the opening of a game. Someone sent the demo to Glen Wheatley (now her manager) in a red and white envelope (the trademark colours of the Swans whom is his favourite team to) which he noticed and opened. At the age of 14 Glen invited Delta to move to Melbourne for 4 months to record a proper demo CD. Then the searching began for a record company that loved her music. At just 15 Delta Goodrem got signed to a record label. For the next year it was music, music, music constantly working on her CD and learning all about the music industry.
The producers of the hit Ten Network show "Neighbours" approached Delta whilst she was making her CD. They wanted her to play the part of Nina, a painfully shy girl with a fantastic voice who records a demo-Born to try. With her love of acting and singing Delta jumped at the opportunity and really liked the ideas that the show put forward. Having recorded "Born To Try" with Audius after a frenzied on-day writing session in Sydney Delta presented it to the producers when the role demanded an original song.
"Everything fits, in terms of the music and the lyrics, and with what I'd heard they wanted to do with the character."
After spending all day at the Neighbours set Delta spent her evening recording her album. Her first single didn't do as well as expected and so Delta went back to the drawing board and started to re-write some of the album.
The new album is due out in the spring of 2003 and is to be called "innocent eyes" with a single out just before that called "Lost without you". With the success of Delta as Nina on Neighbours the record company decided to release Born To Try as a linked single to the show. With its release on November 11th 2002 in Australia it went straight into the Number 3 spot getting a very excited response from the Delta Goodrem camp. Better news is to follow, three weeks after it release (actually 2 weeks and 6 days) Born To Try went into the number one spot, securing Delta's First number one and a very proud fan base.
Delta fans are now eagerly awaiting news of the album and the launch of Born To Try in the UK which is due for the 10th Febuaury 2003.With all of that going on it is going to be an exciting and much anticipated year for Delta and her fans.
"Performing is always my favourite part; it is a totally different world and you become a totally different person. I love it. I even love the nervous butterflies before I go on stage." Delta Goodrem, 2001
